I Will Put My Spirit in You and Give You a New Heart (Ezechiel 36:26–27) (Fr. Joel Macul, OSB, STL)

Living in exile, the Prophet Ezekiel articulates the failure of the community that brought them there.

At the same time, his vision of a valley of dry bones coming to life is a sign of hope and new life. He is a prophet of the Spirit working in the heart. He knows what it is to experience death and yet keep a vision for the promise of a new life. Ezekiel accompanies us through Lent to the Easter Vigil, then on to Pentecost. We will take a close look at Ezekiel’s texts that speak of personal responsibility and at those that promise a cleansing of hearts, a Spirit-filled and united community, a new heart, and a new presence of God in glory among his people.
